Shape of the Images /

Inspired by a particular discourse in philosopher Henri Bergson's book "Matter and Memory" published in 1894, I attempted to create a work of art. Matter is the totality of "images. And this 'image' is more than what the idealists call a representation, but less than what the realists call a thing, in other words, an existence somewhere between thing and representation," Bergson said.

In this work, materials discarded in daily life, such as cloth, wood, and printed matter, are improvisationally assembled by humans in a specific space, and then projected onto these materials by multiple projectors using offline and online images accessible via smart phones. The non-material hierarchy, which is the projected light (image), is traversed into the material hierarchy, which is the material, and the space that emerges in the process is recorded. Through a series of these actions, I transform a particular object, fuse it with a particular image, and then separate the two, rethinking the space between the material and the material, and the relationship between the material and the body through the image.

Shape of the Images /
